Changes to Motorcycle Licence Structure
You may be aware that changes to motorcycle licencing category's and requirements are due to be implemented early in 2013. In simple terms it will require motorcyclists under the age of 24years to go through more stages to reach a full category A licence.
The main details are as follows;
Mopeds 50cc will remain for 16 year olds
Bikes up to 125cc will remain for 17 year olds (although the specification may alter slightly, as yet we have no details) This will be the A1 licence
A new category will be added to the licence known as A2. Riders can only progress from A1 to A2 by gaining two years experience, followed by training and another test. This means that the minimum age for riding anything bigger than a 125cc will increase to 19 years.
An unlimited A licence will again need another 2 years experience after passing the A2 test and involve further training and possibly another test.(this further test element has not yet been decided)
This is the situation as we know it. We will do our best to keep you updated with the changes as we get the information.

MMT Mystery Tour
We had a brilliant day out on Sunday June 27th. with a decent turnout of 18 bikes despite the football match later in the day! We stopped at Hartside for coffee after a steady ride up through Middleton in Teesdale and Alston. Unfortunately encountered a few 'crazies' on the ride up to the cafe! Lunch stop was at the Kirkstone Inn then down to Windermere, through Kendal, Sedbergh and then the final coffee stop at Hawes. Numbers had dwindled by then however the die-hards saw out the remainder of the ride and we all had a good day.
Croft British Superbikes
The recent BSB round at Croft was a brilliant day out for race fans and others alike. The weather was good, the racing even better. MMT helped sponsor the Sondel Sport team in the Superstock 1000 class. The bike was a Suzuki GSXR 1000 ridden by David Jackson. Although the bike was last years championship winning bike it was David's first outing on it. Fast in wet qualifying he struggled to find the best setup for the race and finished mid-pack.
More from Croft
Special mention goes to Rob Brown of Barnard Castle. This was Rob's first entry in a BSB round and Croft being his 'home' track, represented an opportunity to show how good he is. Rob races in the Superstock 600 class, he won the Nort-East championship last year and would have won the 1000 class too had it not been for an horrendous accident at East Fortune that damaged him very seriously. Despite riding a three old bike Rob qualified 25th and finished 19th in the race!
TEST UPDATE
From July 1st the DSA has decided that unless candidates are suitably dressed they may not allow their test to go ahead.
Items of clothing considered unacceptable are: lightweght training shoes, basket-ball boots, track suits, fleeces or hooded tops.

Croft Superbikes 2011
The Superbike championship came early to Croft this year but not in time to catch the briliant weather we'd been enjoying recently. This did not deter thousands of fans who were rewarded with a brilliant days racing. Shane Byrne on his HM Plant Honda Fireblade, currently leading the championship, was the clear leader of race one, only for his bike to suffer a massive engine failure and catch fire! He made ammends in race two and was the clear winner from John Hopkins on his Samsung Suzuki.
